Industrial Water Treatment Checklist for Pune MIDC Factories
Factories often lose time and money by selecting water-treatment equipment before defining the real process requirement. A proper industrial project should begin with water analysis, flow, process specification and wastewater data.
1. Start With the Incoming Water
Whether the source is municipal supply, tanker water or another permitted source, incoming-water quality defines the pre-treatment requirement. Parameters such as TDS, hardness, turbidity, iron, silica, alkalinity and chloride may influence system design.
2. Define the End Use
Process Water
Manufacturing equipment or product quality may require a defined water specification.
Boiler Feed
Hardness and dissolved solids often need tighter control depending on boiler specifications.
Cooling Water
Make-up water quality influences scaling, blowdown and cooling-system operation.
Washing / Rinsing
Some production lines need consistent treated-water quality to avoid deposits or product issues.
General Utility Water
May need only filtration or hardness treatment rather than full RO.
Industrial Effluent
Wastewater needs a separate ETP design.
3. Choose Treatment Based on the Problem
| Issue / Requirement | Possible Direction |
|---|---|
| Turbidity / suspended solids | Media, bag or cartridge filtration |
| Actual hardness reduction | Ion-exchange softener |
| Dissolved-solids reduction | Industrial RO |
| Very low ionic content required | RO + DM / demineralization depending on specification |
| Industrial process wastewater | Project-specific ETP |
4. Calculate Real Capacity
Plant capacity should reflect hourly and daily demand, operating shifts, storage and peak load. A system sized only from “litres per day” can still be undersized if production uses water in short high-demand windows.
5. Separate WTP and ETP
A water treatment plant conditions incoming water for use. An ETP treats industrial wastewater after the process. They should be engineered separately even when both are part of one factory project.
6. Review Existing Plant Data Before Replacing Equipment
Low RO output, frequent membrane fouling, unstable pressure, high chemical consumption or poor ETP performance may come from a design, pre-treatment, control or operating issue. A technical audit can sometimes solve the problem without replacing the entire plant.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does every Pune factory need industrial RO?
No. RO is needed only where the required water quality calls for dissolved-solids reduction.
What is the first document needed for WTP design?
A representative raw-water laboratory report is one of the most useful starting points, along with flow and end-use requirements.
Why is ETP design different for every industry?
Industrial wastewater composition depends on raw materials, production processes, chemicals, cleaning cycles and operating patterns.
Can a plant be designed for future expansion?
Yes, if future flow and production changes are discussed during design. This can affect tank sizes, pumps, vessels, skid layout and piping.
Does Ethix support Pune MIDC projects?
Ethix accepts industrial water-treatment enquiries across Pune and surrounding manufacturing belts including Chakan, Bhosari, Talegaon, Ranjangaon and Pirangut.
